Kick off Art Basel Week Tonight in Coconut Grove!

Art Starts in The Grove Coconut Grove welcomes art enthusiasts on November 29 to celebrate the creative process with a variety of media and subject matter in Miami's original art scene. More than a dozen of the area's fastest growing galleries sit "bayside," presenting an array of work ranging from world renowned sculptures to South American fine art pieces to emerging, local contemporary collections. Guest galleries will also be exhibiting on this special night. All events take place in the Coconut Grove business district.

  • Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery: "Natural Selection:" Native South Florida artists are returning to Miami to make their hometown proud, as the city welcomes the nation's biggest art event. Kicking off Art Basel week, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival Gallery is proud to showcase extraordinary and visionary works by young emerging and established South Florida artists during its "Natural Selection" exhibition, opening Monday, November 29 during the Art Starts in the Grove event. Enjoy complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres. The exhibit runs through Tuesday, January 5.
  • RodezArt.com Gallery: Eleven artists join forces to create one voice by bearing their souls in an exploration of self-identity through visual art and film - "eXposed" opens during its vernissage on the November 29 Arts Starts in the Grove event and continues through January 1, 2011. Complementary event scheduled for December 5, 2010 at Paragon Grove 13, with a special theater screening of "Rock Hudson: Dark and Handsome Stranger." Sales will benefiting the Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival.
  • Nomade Art Gallery: "Anarchitecture" - the notion of anarchy-the overthrow of the norm, power and societal constraints, and architecture-the science of creation, construction and destruction and what emerges when these two notions are put together. Exhibition includes a strong focus on recycling and nature, the elements and their demise, while also presenting works from French painter & sculpture Pierre Traversat, Dominican photographer Aida Tejada and German-based photographer Casey McKee.
  • Cristina Chacon Studio/Gallery: On the heels of its one year anniversary, Cristina Chacon Studio Gallery will add new flare to the existing “Entropy” exhibition by presenting young emerging artists from Colombia’s vibrant arts scene. The exhibit run thru January 26.
  • Satellite Art + Design Gallery
  • Grove House Artists: Great Grove Shootout” opening exhibition, plus a new grid exhibition of member artists’ works curated by Lilia Garcia, gallery curator of the Coconut Grove Arts Festival gallery. Featured artist for December Mary Ponchio.
  • AC Fine Arts Gallery: A tasteful variety of world renowned artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Salvador Dali will be featured alongside top local artists such as Erika King, Purvis Young and the original Florida Highwaymen.
  • Dharma Studio
  • Blue Moon Studio of Art: Eclectic mix of works by Sheri Friedman, Aleloop, Atena Komar, Peter Barreda, Carolina Nelida Gauna and Lourdes Orta. A retrospective of the years exhibits here at Blu Moon. Wine and cheese will be served.

  • Performance Art Gallery with work by Andrea Sampaolo: Renowned Italian painter Andrea Sampaolo, will “perform” his creative style to the sounds of live band.
10 PM After Party at the Mayfair Atrium Sculpture Garden with works by acclaimed John Angee.

Art Starts in the Grove includes food, drink, wine tastings, live music, DJs and more, such as
$50-off art purchases in all galleries; trolley transportation from key Miami locations to Coconut Grove and free admission into any event.
